EYRE UNITED FOOTBALL & NETBALL CLUB
About the Eyre United Saints
Hi there and welcome! Thanks for taking the opportunity to find out about the Eyre United Football & Netball Club. We hope that this website will prove both interesting and informative, such that you will know how and why to get involved.
Who are we?
We are a strong community bound by our passion for the Eyre United Saints. Our colours are Red, Black, and White. During the Winter, we field 5 football teams (3 juniors and 2 seniors) and 9 netball teams (5 juniors and 4 seniors). The season generally commences in April and runs through to September, with Wednesday night training sessions (and great dinners in the Complex!) for all grades commencing in mid-March.
Training and Game Times.
Our home games take place on Saturdays at the Ungarra Sporting Complex, starting at 10 am. The atmosphere is lively throughout the day, catering to everyone from kids playing their first games to more experienced players. The Complex, centrally located between the netball courts and football oval, provides excellent spectator viewing even in adverse weather conditions.
Junior and Senior trainings are held on Wednesday evenings, providing a great opportunity to gather, share stories over a schnitzel, and enjoy refreshments. Whether you've never played sports, are new to the area, or have been here for decades, you are always welcome at the Eyre United Football & Netball Club.
Our club culture.
Beyond sports, we have built a diverse community that embraces a fantastic family atmosphere and camaraderie. We support each other through both good and tough times, drawing our supporters not only from the original townships of Ungarra, Lipson, and Butler but also from Tumby Bay and Port Lincoln districts. We are a true country sporting club that is run by a passionate contingent of volunteers, largely from the surrounding agricultural sector. You can rest assured that you will find practical, hard-working people with a passion for all things sport and community.
Join us on game day for a fantastic canteen experience, offering great meals that are the envy of the EP. Value meals are available from 6:15 pm in the Complex. Stay after dinner for entertaining activities, ranging from local bands to quizzes, games nights, or the coveted 8-ball tournament.
History.
You may know that the Eyre United Football and Netball Club’s compete in the Great Flinders Football and Netball Associations today, but did you know we’ve been around for a lot longer than that, via a number of iterations? Our roots were laid down in 1920 with the formation of the Eastern Eyre Peninsula Football League, comprised of Ungarra, Lipson, Butler, Port Neill and Tumby Bay. Each team had their own home ground and netball club.
In 1963 the EEPFL was disbanded, with Ungarra, Lipson and Butler amalgamating to form the Eyre United Football Club with the slogan “United We Stand”, in the Port Lincoln Football League. Due to the fact that players wives and partners did not have the opportunity to play netball in the PLFL, the Eyre United Netball Club formed and both football and netball joined the GFFL/GFNA in 1971, filling all grades. Until the current Ungarra Oval Complex was built in 1984, the Ungarra Town Hall served as the clubrooms for meals and social activities.
Many infrastructure upgrades have been undertaken over the years as we strive for continuous improvement of facilities. Some recent examples include a major extension of the canteen and kitchen facilities, new lighting and boundary fencing for the netball/tennis courts, new carpets and A/C inside the Complex, along with a facelift for the coaches box’s and entrance. Further plans to reinvest in our community are on the drawing board to ensure our long-term future is secure. Exciting times are ahead!
